The last few days I didn't get much painting done. I did finish this little guy today and also added him to my Etsy shop. He is sweet for someone in the house and is going to express his affection on Valentine's Day

Way Below Zero
Currently I'm working on several paintings and will open a new shop on another site this month. With that in mind I went to my studio space to work today, a lovely, but very empty big old house in Green Bay. It was so cold -zero outside and drafty inside! So I didn't get much done freezing my butt off and listening to what must have been the heater going, but sounded more like monsters, yea it was loud. To ease my mind I checked out the upstairs. Where was all of that noise and what was it? All I could guess were overworked pipes, that's what I want to believe, ha,ha. I wasn't curios enough to go to the attic (I could't get the door open for one thing,ha ha) or the basement.
Tomorrow's another day to paint and wear more layers. More paintings will be posted next week.

Skier in the Woods, Snowy Paintings on Etsy

Here is one of 2 small snowy paintings that are for sale at sarahsolie.etsy.com. Inspired by the snow we had around the New Year, I painted a couple of mini paintings. These miny paintings are 5x7 on board, a little bigger than a postcard.

Snowy Days, striping wallpaper, new website...

image is ©David Lorenz Winston
This is the kind of Wisconsin winter I love, lots of soft snow. This season I have been lucky enough to go skiing several times so far. The next couple of days will be too cold for that kind of fun. Over Christmas I did have time to paint a couple of snow inspired paintings.
One project I've been working on is striping a room of wallpaper, it is not coming off easily. In this lifetime I will not choose to ever put wallpaper on any wall, ha,ha. Next I will be priming and painting it. The painting will be a piece of cake.
As always, I have been using and learning new ways to use the computer. A few months ago I was working on the computer a lot more than I am now. I had made my website and was learning things the hard way. It was so time consuming that I handed the job over to Amanda Jones, who made a whole new website for me. She has also been helpful with her thoughtful input. I'm so glad I've been able to work with her.
Soon I have to find a new place to live, yikes.

Another Year
As this year is ending, I'm remembering happier times. There have been so many struggles and regrets,
if I could have a chance to do somethings over, make them better, sigh. With that in mind my New Years
resolution is to not dwell on the past and have more fun.
(Easier to keep a resolution without any specific goals, ha)
Early next year I will be moving to another city, with a more permanent place to paint and new opportunities.
As alway I'm in the process of new projects.

New Website and Upcoming Projects
My website is up and running. There will be several technical and minor changes in the next couple of weeks. Next week I'll be finishing a promotional drawing I'm doing for a yoga studio.
Sometime in 2008 I'll be drawing more nudes. They will be in a nudist publication. Years of figure drawing comes in handy.
Aside from that, I'm working on several promotional pieces for myself.

Thoughts after Thanksgiving
For Thanksgiving I spent a couple hours at a food kitchen. There was a lot of free food and the walls were a lime green,
which I loved. Since then I have been thinking of the satisfaction and fun I've had volunteering,
and the many generous people who've helped me. With that in mind I compiled 7 of my favorite organizations with links.
They are alphabetically listed and combined with my other links.
Organic Valley Coop, Family Farm Defenders and Sow the Seeds Fund have some useful information about farming and about the food we eat, that anyone can use. Aside from that I included these 3 because there is info and a place to donate money for the farmers in parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa who were affected by the flooding in August.
Second Harvest is a food bank to help feed hungry people. Restore is a store connected to Habitat for Humanity. You can donate things from your home: doors, sinks, windows, nails... All of these items are reused when someone buys them and they are kept out of the landfill. Jane Lachapelle McCarty Fund is a fund set up in memorial to my friend Jane who passed away in 2004. The donated money goes to help finance the Virtues Project.
I've included The Appalachian Community Fund, because I don't often hear information from this area. My Mom is from the hills of Kentucky and I have fond memories of the storytelling, food, music and more. There is a lot going on there and wish there was more news about it. A good documentary filmed in Kentucky about a coal mining strike in the 70's is Harlan County, later made into a movie with Holly Hunter, also good.

Guild Sourcebook of Residential Art 6
Today a page with 3 of my barns was published on the new Guild Residential Sourcebook 6. To find my page go to www.guild.com click on Residential Sourcebook then paintings and prints. I'm on the first page right hand side. A hard copy will be printed with tearsheets, early next year. A special thanks to the most excellent and generous Geoffrey Cook and all the work he's done for me, taking pictures layout...
This month I'll start working on a couple of new project, both black and white drawings. One will be another nude or nudes and a yoga pose. This week I'm expecting a new website.

New website and more
My new website should be up and
running in the next week or two.
Technical work is being done,
switching information and servers...
Recently I've moved and will have
to move again in December.
While moving, I injured my back and
ended up in the hospital,
recovering more or less 4 days later
after lots of sleep and
pain medication. For the time being
I have not been able to get to
my paints. In December I will be
more settled and back to painting along
with upcoming projects and
a book coming out in February with some
of my barn paintings.
